The Lurker Tool website and browser extension · Last updated 22 October 2026
The Lurker Tool opens Twitch streams when the streamers you choose go live. It has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and we don't sell or share your data.
What stays in your browser
- The list of streamers you track, and your settings.
- If you choose Sign in with Twitch: a Twitch access token, your Twitch user id and username. The token only allows reading the channels you follow.
The website keeps these in your browser's local storage. The extension keeps its own copy in the browser's extension storage, and the two sync with each other on your device. None of this is sent to us. Signing out deletes the token and revokes it with Twitch. Uninstalling the extension or clearing site data removes everything.
What is sent, and where
- To Twitch, when you're signed in: requests for the live status and profiles of the channels you track, and your follow list, authorised with your own token. Twitch's privacy notice applies to those requests.
- To our server (lurker.zemaxi.com), when you're not signed in: the public Twitch usernames or ids of the channels you track, so the server can look up their live status for you. It doesn't receive your token or anything else about you.
What our server keeps
To prevent abuse, the server counts requests per IP address for one minute, using a one-way hash of the address rather than the address itself. Twitch's answers are cached for 30 seconds so repeated lookups don't hit Twitch again. Nothing is kept longer or tied to a person. Our web host may keep standard access logs.
Notifications and tabs
The extension checks your tracked channels once a minute. When one goes live, it may open the channel on twitch.tv or show a notification, depending on your settings. To avoid duplicate tabs, it checks whether a twitch.tv tab for that channel is already open. It does not read or record your browsing.
